KPMG - Nigeria is the most fraudulent country in Africa

A global audit and financial advisory firm, KPMG, has rated Nigeria as the most fraudulent country in Africa. The rating is coming on the heels of President Goodluck Jonathan's claim that his administration has done better than previous ones in the fight against corruption.

According to KPMG, Nigeria accounted for the highest number of fraud cases on the continent in the first half of 2012. The cost of fraud in the country during the period was put at N225 billion ($1.5 billion). KPMG, in its second Africa Fraud Barometer result, released on Wednesday, also said Nigeria, Kenya, Zimbabwe and South Africa accounted for 74 per cent of all fraud cases in Africa in the same period.

The report stated that the number of fraud cases in Nigeria has been worsened by fraud and corruption in the oil sector. It identified the common forms of fraud in the country as "bribes in the private and public sector, misappropriation, and contract inflation." Government officials and top management staff in private companies were described as the worst offenders leaving companies shareholders and the general public to bear the brunt of their profligacy. The report further blames the long and tedious legal system in the country of doing next to nothing in bringing perpetrators to book. "The general belief in Nigeria is that the legal system is not effective enough," said Olumide Olayinka, Head of Risk Consulting of KPMG Nigeria.

"There have been a lot of cases involving the banking and the oil and gas sectors or government that lead to prosecution. The current noticeable trend is that many cases either end with a plea bargain or are simply closed without any conviction," he added. Data for the fraud barometer are aggregated from news articles and reviewing fraud cases from designated databases. Though the amount of fraud in the country is grim, the report observes a decline in the cases of fraud from 520 in the second half of 2011 to 503 cases in the first half of 2012 in the continent. During the same period, the value of fraud decreased from N495 billion (US$3.3 billion) to N300 billion (US$ 2 billion).

Jonathan had during the presidential media chat last Sunday said his administration was pro-actively fighting and winning the war on corruption. He said he believed had done better than his predecessors in fighting corruption in the country. Read More

Nicki Minaj Denied Entry To Her Own Album Party

American rapper-singer Nicki Minaj was early this week prevented from attending her own album release party.

This happened at about 2:30am on Monday at a New York club, when Nicki Minaj reportedly showed up with 25 people and cops never allowed her to enter with the people she brought.

Nicki Minaj wanted to celebrate the release of her new album Pink Friday: Roman Reloaded.

Reports say this occurred because the venue was at capacity and there was nothing organisers and Police could do to accommodate her.

Nicki was said to have scheduled to make an appearance alongside rappers and music producers Flo Rida and Fabolous but arrived at the event too late.

Naeto C Replies N400,000 Fraud Allegations

Naeto C has replied the accusations coming from FBS Entertainment (FBS actually meant Fine Boy Swag...lol) accusing the rapper of defrauding them of N400,000.

Naeto C was said to have collected money for a show and never showed up, also refusing to pay the money back. Below is the story according to "Camp Naeto":

With reference to the news making the rounds on entertainment blog portals and social media platforms about our client Naeto C defrauding a show promoter of certain amount of money, we would like to clear the air and set the records straight. For the purpose of clarity and details, we will enumerate all the facts of the affair below.

Naeto C actually made the trip to Abuja to fulfill his end of the agreement subject to receiving full payment for the said event a day before or on the date of the engagement. When it became apparent on the day of the show that the promoters were not forthcoming with the balance, our client declined to grace the show with his presence especially as he had held up his end of the bargain regardless of the fact that the show was three days to his wedding. Most significantly, the signature on the agreement document is not that of our client and this act of forgery is not only distasteful, but criminal.

At this juncture, it should be stated for the benefit of those that are new to the entertainment business that 'a show promoter is liable to forfeit any money deposited to book an artiste for a particular date if the promoter fails to complete payment before the stipulated time for the performance and the artiste is permitted to walk away from the arrangement'. This is standard practice in entertainment all over the world because artiste will decline all other approaches by prospective clients once a party makes a commitment by way of an initial deposit.

Now that we have established the ground facts, let us further clarify the following claims that were made:

At no point did the said promoter have a direct conversation with our client regarding the subject. All forms of communication in the build-up to the agreement were carried out via a third party, a certain DJ Fresh, for whom our client was willing to perform as a favor. The sum deposited is a fraction of the total amount which was agreed upon and stated in the agreement doc.

The promoter defaulted on the payment of the balance from the amount agreed upon during negotiations.

That said, we will explore all options made available to us within legal bounds of the constitution of Nigeria, including suing for fraudulent practices (forgery of signature) and defamation of character if we deem it fit, if these false claims and accusations are not retracted and a letter of apology issued.

Toolz joins Banky W as judge for MTV Base VJ search

Less than two weeks to the open auditions for the 2012 MTV Base VJ Search, organisers have announced Beat FM'sOAP, Tolu Oniru, otherswise known as Toolz as one of the judges.

Toolz will be joining singer-label boss, Banky W who had been earlier announced.

It will however not be an all Nigerian affair as the duo will be joined by MTV's creative director Tim Horwood.

The three judges will be saddled with the responsibility of sieving through the thousands of applicants to pick the one individual that will become the station's VJ and rep.

The open audition will be held on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at the Fantasy land, Lagos.

He's the youngest son of the late legendary Afrobeat pioneer, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti and in terms of being controversial, the apple didn't fall far from the tree.


If he isn't protesting against fuel hikes then he's warning the Government not to put his grandmother's face on the cover of a proposed new currency. It's safe to say Seun Kuti is a man who doesn't conceal his thoughts. He's either making music or stirring up some controversy somewhere. This time, he's talking about God.

When asked what God meant to him, Seun Kuti simply and clearly refused to acknowledge his existence and the existence of any other supernatural being.

'I do not believe in God. I am not a believer of anything supernatural. I don't believe in God, Jesus Christ, Mohammed, Ifa, Ogun, or whatever anybody uses as a reason to explain simple actions of nature. God, to me, is in existence' he said.

Nigeria dominates at the 2012 Channel O Music Video Awards! (Winners list)

Nigerian acts dominated the winners list at the Channel O Music Video Awards, held on November 17, 2012.

Out of an impressive 13 nominations, Nigeria artistes secured six awards; Pop duo Psquare won the 'Most Gifted Group/Duo' award for their collaboration with May D on the hit single 'Chop my money,' while another collaboration from Highlife singer Flavour and Tiwa Savage on 'Oyi' remix won the 'Most Gifted R&B Music Video of the year' award.

D'banj walked away with the 'Most Gifted Male Video of the Year' award. Last year, the G.O.O.D Music act who was to be honoured with a 'Special Recognition' award missed the show.

Other Nigerian winners include Chocolate City ambassadors BrymO, who won the 'Most Gifted Pop' for his hit song 'Ara' and the award show's co-host Ice Prince, who won the award for 'Most Gifted Hip Hop Video of the Year.'

Meanwhile, Davido walked away with the  'Most Gifted New Comer of the Year' award, beating Kenya's Camp Mulla and Ghana's E.L, among others.

The show, hosted by rapper Ice Prince and South African model Bonang Matheba, took place at the Walter Sisulu Square in Kliptown, Soweto.

8 Signs She’s Just Using You

While some men don't want to settle down and claim a girlfriend, most men don't need any "girl…friends" either. After all, what man wants to just "hang out" with a beautiful woman?

That's what his boys are for. It's totally possible for men and women to be platonic friends, but that's not normally how it starts.

The man is attracted to a woman, he asks her out, and they spend time together. But then somewhere along the line, said man falls into the dreaded "friend zone" – and he has no idea how he got there. He's not sure if she's playing hard to get, or if he's been hoodwinked – and while he's trying to figure it all out, the woman knows exactly what she's doing. If you're not sure if you're being played for a fool, here are some signs that she just might be using you.

1. You Are Her Personal Chauffeur

You have a car…she doesn't. This is not a big deal, and being the gentleman you are, you have no problem picking her up for dates. But after a while, you're not just picking her up to go to the movies. You're driving her to work, to her doctor's appointment and even to her friends' house. As a matter of fact, she asks you to drive her AND her friends around – to the club, the mall, wherever. But she's attractive, so you do it, even if it's totally out of your way. The way you see it, she'll think you're such a nice guy that she might even invite you INSIDE of her home one day.

But she doesn't, and you barely get a kiss on the cheek for all of the gas you've burnt up.  If she's given you ZERO indication that she's even remotely physically attracted to you, then she's using you for a ride. Unless you've at least gotten to second base, keep your car parked and let her figure out how to get around herself.

2. You're Her Flunky

It's not enough that you drive her around, but sometimes she sends you out WITHOUT HER to run her errands. She asks you, in that ever so sweet voice of hers, to pick up her dry cleaning "since it's on your way home." She has to work late, so she wants to know if you'd be a dear and walk her precious dog for her. And you do it, because you figure that's what a good boyfriend would do, right? Right.

Problem is, you're not her boyfriend, you're her errand boy; and any hopes you had of becoming her boyfriend went out the window along with your dignity. She's not going to date you because she doesn't respect you. Some women don't like a guy who does whatever she says or who she can walk all over. What you see as kindness, she may view as weakness. It's sad but true. There's nothing wrong with being a good friend, if that's all you want to be. But if you want more, and she's not giving it to you, despite all of your good intentions, then bounce…and let her hire an assistant.

3. You Are Her "Go-To" Date

If you find that she only wants to go OUT – to the movies, a concert or to her favorite restaurant, chances are she just wants to get out of the house and you are her "go-to" date. Every time she calls, you're always available…probably because you sit around waiting for your phone to ring. She knows this, and she also knows that you will do anything to be in her presence. If she's always busy when you invite her to your crib or you've never seen the inside of her place, then she probably doesn't want to be anywhere where something could jump off…and she'd have to turn you down. Just once or twice, be busy when she calls or tell her "no" to an outside date and see how she reacts. If she's bent out of shape or stops calling, then you'll know she's probably not that into you.

4. You Pay For ALL Dates

Not only are you her "go-to" date – you also PAY for ALL of the dates. Some women expect men to pay for all dates, and some men even agree with that. But you shouldn't be going broke while you're trying to figure if she actually even likes you. If you've got the means to stick it out until she magically falls in love with you, then rock on. But if you have to take out a small loan just to keep courting this woman, while she NEVER ever offers to pay for anything, then stop…now. See how long she wants to "date" you when you tell her that you forgot your wallet.

5. You Pay Her Bills

It's one thing to pay for dates, but it's another thing to pay her rent. There's nothing wrong with helping out a friend in need, or LOANING someone some money until they get on their feet. But unless you are her MAN, and you KNOW this, then there is no way you should be paying for anything that's in her name. Men and women use each other all the time for different things, but you're a straight up sucka if she hands you a utility bill and you actually pay it…regularly. And don't try taking her to court when she drops you for some other fool and you're out hundreds or thousands of dollars. She'll claim it was a "gift" and you'll never get your money back. Listen to what I'm telling you and save yourself from having to learn an expensive lesson on your own.

6. You're Mr. Fix It

You've let it be known that you're pretty handy when it comes to fixing things, so she invites you over one Saturday afternoon to "help" her paint her house. You think it'll earn you some cool points – and you'll get to be INSIDE her place and you can seduce her while you wait for the paint to dry. WRONG! All she's going to do is find a way to be busy "doing something else" while you paint, and when you're done, she'll suddenly need a ride to Home Depot to pick up some things for the next project you'll be working on. So you drive her there (See #1) and pay for all the materials (See #5) and then go back to her place to install her new cabinets, hang some shelves and fix her leaky faucet. She doesn't even offer to feed you (See #4).  She rushes you out of her house when the work is done because she's "tired" (has a date with someone else) so you leave, hoping for another chance to get closer to her bedroom. You, my friend, have been had. Next time, tell her to hire a contractor and keep it moving.

7. You're Her Confidante

So by now, you realize that you're in the" friend zone", but you don't care. You think you still have a chance to woo her, so you continue to be her shoulder to cry on hoping that one day she'll come to her senses and realize what a wonderful, caring, compassionate man you are. So you endure endless hours of her late night calls crying to you about the jerk who broke her heart (again). You encourage her complaints about all the no-good men out there and remind her that if she were your woman, you'd never hurt her and treat her like the queen that she is. Little do you know, she's a glutton for punishment, only likes "bad boys" and thinks nice guys like you are weak and pathetic. Dude, run…or else she'll just continue to use you up and walk all over you. You're wasting your time if you think she'll change her mind about you – and if she finally ever does, it'll be too late…because you will have found a woman who appreciates you.

8. You're Her Sex Toy

Now, this might not be a problem for most men out there, but if you are genuinely interested in having a real relationship, getting married and having kids one day, then you might want to find a woman who wants you for more than sex. Believe it or not, there are women out there, like men, who have jump-offs who they will never be seen out in public with. The sex is earth shattering, but she doesn't want a relationship, OR, she doesn't want a relationship with YOU. Maybe you're too short, don't have a job, have multiple children with multiple women, have some teeth missing…who knows. Either way, she doesn't want her girlfriends to know about you, so you become her dirty little secret and she calls you after midnight to come by and crack her back. Now, again…some, if not most, men would be fine with this arrangement. But if you've somehow caught feelings for her, then it's best you leave now before your heart gets broken into a million little pieces once she finds a guy she can actually be seen in daylight with. 44-year-old Vladimir Fomin, from Kineshma, a town in Russia's Ivanovo Region, is a very peculiar man. He became somewhat of a celebrity in his country after he was expelled from the University of Mathematics for refusing to wear trousers and walking around in women's clothing. 

Vladimir certainly isn't the only man in the world who prefers skirts and dresses to trousers, but his reasons are definitely unique. He is not gay nor a transvestite, nor does he want to attract media attention. He just wants to stand up for the rights of men to wear whatever kind of clothes they like. After all, women are allowed to wear trousers, so why can't men wear dresses or skirts, why is that regarded as weird? But his fight for the rights of the stronger sex have brought him nothing but trouble. 

Despite being one of the brightest students at the Ivanovo University of Mathematics and earning a scholarship, he was expelled because of his fashion choices, he was shunned by most of his friends and relatives and even verbally abused and beaten by locals in his home town for walking around in women's clothes. 

But in spite of all these problems, Vladimir Fromin continues his fight for the right to dress any way he likes, and hopes to one day be able to walk around in his skirts without being discriminated against. And he has a wardrobe of over 30 women's garments. 

There was a time when Vladimir wore trousers. He even had a wife and children, but he says his views of men's clothing have always been the same.
