Tens of women in Obi-Obeti Akoku Community, Ukwani Local
Government Area of Delta State, yesterday took to the streets nude in
the early hours to protest the mysterious death of a 40-year old
hunter.
Reports said the women had declared a seven-day
period of abstinence from social functions, until the killers of the
person identified as Dada (Surname withheld) from Ogume, Ndokwa West
Local Government Area of the state are found.
Meanwhile some
residents of the Community for fear of the unknown have fled the area
as Ogume people have allegedly threatened to avenge the killing of
their son.
The threat had jolted the residents, forcing the
women to take to the streets half naked to protest the killing, even as
they rained curses on the killers.
Unconfirmed sources said that
there had been scores of unidentified persons found dead in the area in
the recent times which residents feared might be connected with
rituals.
LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that the victim of the
mysterious death was found by a road junction in the community after he
reportedly excused himself from a drinking joint to go for his hunting
expedition the previous night.
The corpse was found covered with
a white wrapper and bore a deep matchet cut, but no blood stain at the
scene apart from blood stains from foams gushing out of his mouth.
The
Divisional Police officer (DPO) in the area, who did not want his name
in print confirmed that the protest took place in the early hours
adding that it was a taboo to see the women’s nakedness.
He said: “we are on top of the investigation while the women took short cut to found the killers.”
